A Trip Down Memory Lane
I have been fortunate to live and/or visit a number of places throughout my life. My journalism career even allowed me to travel abroad. I thought this would be a great post to start by sharing all of the places we’ve lived and the place we’d most like to live in retirement.
I might also add this post was inspired by fellow Boomer Diva Nation member, Vicki M. Taylor, who posted something similar on her Facebook page.
I’ll start. I’ve visited: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC.
I’ve lived in: Ohio, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina.
The place I’ll NEVER live again: West Virginia.
The place I loved the most: New York and New Hampshire. N.H. has the most beautiful changing of seasons. New York is just full of excitement.
The place I’d love to live in retirement: St. Lucia.
OK…your turn.

OK. I’ve visited North Carolina, Virginia, Mississippi, Louisanna, California, Colorada, New York, New Jersey, Kentucky,Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland, Texas, Massechusets, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, West Virginia, Minnesota, St.Martin, Mexico, Italy, Ireland, England, Hawaii, St. Thomas, The Bahamas.
I’ve lived in Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.
I’d rather not live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, again.
The place I loved the most? Lucca, between Florence and Pisa in Italy.
A big rambling ranch on five acres anywhere where the seasons change, but its mostly warm!

Wow, you’ve lived in a variety of areas.. I’ve only lived in California.
I have visited several other states though. When the kids were young (and I home-schooled them back then), we took a road trip to visit friends in Beaver lake Arkansas, so we saw a lot of the country then, including New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and it was such so much fun!
I’ve flown to Hawaii, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Missouri. I’ve been to New York, but didn’t make it out of the airport, so that doesn’t count.
We’ve also driven to Idaho, Arizona and many many times to our neighbor Nevada for our Las Vegas trips!
I’ve been to Europe three times.. the first time was when I was 15 and 22 year old (then) sister and I went backpacking through western Europe. What an experience! The next two times were with my husband.
Of all the US states hubby and I have visited together so far, NC was our favorite. We visited the Raleigh/Durham area and really loved it. Maybe when we retire.. ?

I have been fortunate too…since I worked for American Airlines for 25 years I have done a lot of traveling. I have been to all but about 10 states in the U.S. Have also been to most of the Caribbean, Mexico, Puerto Rico, England, Germany, France, Belgium, North Africa, Spain and Russia…my next country has got to be Italy.
Funny though I am a born and raised Texan…as a child I lived in Louisiana a couple of years and that’s it…the rest of the time Texas.
Since most of my family is in Texas I will probably stay here for retirement as well. If I could I would probably move to the mountains of Colorado or the New England area.

Oh yeah–I forgot about Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Freeport Bahamas but my heart is in St. Lucia.
Karlyn,
You really must see the REST of the US if the Raleigh/Durham area ranks at the top of your list :)

Karlyn, I’m not sure what your reasoning is for not living in W. Virginia, but if I don’t have to go back and visit there again, it won’t break my heart. I really didn’t like it there.
My husband’s sister lives there, so I enjoyed my visit with her, but the terrain and the weather. YUCK!!! Forget it. And, NO CELL SIGNAL!!!

Vicki,
That was ME–who had issues with West Virginia. I lived in a town called Beckley for about 8 months. By the time I left, I learned a lot about the affirmative action laws and so did the town.

I’ve lived in 4 suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia and 2 suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. So really only 2 major cities.
I have visited the following places during my working life:
Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Brisbane, Perth, Fremantle, Sydney (major cities in Australia).
Also, New Zealand, New Caledonia, UK, Ireland, France, Singapore and Japan. I’ll be visiting Canada very soon.

Okay, I gotta do this one. I’ve lived in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Ohio, and Florida. I love California and Florida and will return to one or the other when I retire – probably Florida because it’s more affordable.
Have traveled to most of the states and the Caribbean, Mexico, Asia, and Hawaii. Love the tropics!

I’ve visited: New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, California, Massachusetts, Canada, Mexico, St. Lucia, St. Martin, Antigua, St. Thomas, Bermuda. I think that’s it.
I’ve lived in: upstate NY; New York City; Nashville, TN; and Richmond, VA. I’d live in any of them again. I don’t have a favorite; I always like where I am. Would like to retire maybe to Williamsburg, VA area if not to someplace warmer like Florida.

I’ve lived in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Indiana.
I’ve worked in or visited 36 of the 50 states. Some of my favorite cities: San Francisco, Mt. Carmel By the Sea, New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Kaanapoli Hawaii, Honolulu, Charlottesville, Lexington, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham,Greenville,SC, Asheville, NC among others. My favorite state, aside from my home in Eastern Tennesse (anything west of Nashville..not so much), is Virginia. It is a very beautiful state.
I’m with everyone else on West Virginia. Don’t care for that state.
I’ve been to Canada, Bahamas, and Puerto Rico
